A couple weekends ago I see a redhead pop up locally.  After looking at the ad I think, damn that thing is clean, I want it. Upon closer inspection it's a 1978,  my birth-year kettle, I NEED IT! Listing pics:

Unfortunately I wouldn't be around over the weekend and that's the only time the seller can make it to his parents house (which he is cleaning out). I write back saying I will offer him more money if he will hold it for me.  Soon thereafter @eLLWOODgGLEN posts the listing and says he is going after it.  I didn't want to start a bidding war, so I back out.

That weekend I get this picture from Glen, another note saying he picked up anther red MBH on the same trip, and a final note saying the '78 is mine if I want it.  I almost jumped out of my chair with excitement.

I met up with Glen and picked up the kettle a few days later.  He's gone as far as to clean the kettle and it's spotless. He wouldn't take my cash and wished me a happy birthday. Luckily I had a Weber lantern in the trunk that I was planning to give him as a thank you. Here she is when I got her home. She's a beauty and aside from a little crazing from the banked cooking, is near perfect:

Finally, here is my new kettle with her older, Patent Pending, brother. I'm trying to convince myself I need both, but the Patent Pending will likely need a new home sometime in the near future.

Thanks again @eLLWOODgGLEN!  Tons of kettle karma is headed in your direction.
Wanted: Burgundy 18"

Wow!  That's clean...78 is also my birth year, and I had a redhead I parted with...kind of regret it, but I like my 79 almost as much:)  Congrats on the score, and way to go with @eLLWOODgGLEN on the teamwork.  Really good on him!

Yes, yes, yes that is a beauty. These past four to five weeks in this area has been great in getting beautiful grills. Now I know how a Nile croc feels when the wildebeest make their annual trek. Is there any overspray inside?
