The restore has begun.  I went down to the vault to see what I had for parts.  Forgot that I bought a whole pile of these a couple of years ago when the BORG was clearancing  them out.  (The original is in pretty sad shape.)

Restore Round one was this morning.  I didnt have a lot of time, so it was basically a tear down, inspection and a quick once over with some Dawn, 0000 steel wool and a plastic scraper.

The cooking grate is in really nice shape.  Straight and solid with lots of chrome showing yet.

The triangle also has a fair amount of chrome with only minor surface rust.  Note how clean the leg is in this photo.

This is the front leg.  No rust on it from the leg socket.  Also, the bottom edge has minor wear for missing the leg cap.

The wheels are almost like new.  one of them has a small crack in the tread.  I though when they went all plastic it was one solid piece.  but looking at the cracked wheel the tread is a separate piece from the hub.

This is the untouched bottom of the ash pan.  Quite clean.

The bowl is showing no signs of cracks or crazing. Only a minor bit of rust washing out of one of the leg sockets.  Small tabs on the vent dampers so this is most likely a 1974.

I was able to remove a lot of the gunk from the bowl with a plastic scraper and just a once over with the steel wool and Dawn.  once or twice more and it will be shining like new.

The lid is looking pretty good too.  only the one dime sized ding.  The rim rash may be only some carbonized grease.  i will not know until I do some more cleaning.

I knew I was getting the inside of the lid clean when I thought I started to see speckling. It is actually lime over spray.

Bet ya a lot of that rim rash is carbonized crap like you say. I got a 18 Avocado from L.B. that had about 20 percent of the rim covered in the stuff. I thought it was bad rim rash but it all went away with a razor blade after a little soak.

Love the over spray.

Beautiful, congratulations!
I like it when you find little surprises like the overspray, makes 'em unique

Congratulations. Little limes are special. Funny how we all lust for overspray and orange peeling on our kettles yet dread them in our cars finishes.
