This sucks
I really want one, and have been going back and forth. Dropping $200 on anything is a nice chunk of my disposable income.
I was okay with manufacturing defects as long as we got the same ol' customer service, where Weber would make it right, right away.
Now I'm sorta turned off...
To spend $200 on something, it turn out not to be right, and have the company tell you that's "acceptable ", well that just doesn't sound right, and not what I'm used to when dealing with Weber.

It is a cool grill, I don't want to bash it, just try to look before you buy. It should be sweeet, just wish I would of waited.

Not smart at all on Weber's part.  The reviews will start to come in on Home Depot, Lowes, and Amazon and there will be nothing they can do to fix it at that point.  Really dumb.

Agreed. Weber better smarten up about this or they could have a major issue on their hands here. The leg sockets and grate straps with no porcelain down below is unacceptable. How can they possibly say that is an acceptable flaw?

I posted a question for the Weber rep. on the Amazon page.  I asked about the widespread defects problem and what kind of response we should expect from Weber.  I received a response that mysteriously hasn't appeared in the answered questions column.  I was told to contact Weber cs.  I replied by saying others are being told that these unacceptable defects are acceptable, and that won't work.  We'll see what the reply is on that.  Time to hold their feet to the fire.  The poor PR will catch up with them.

.......These are the concerns that some of us expressed a few years back when Weber sold to the capital venture company.  ........

Bingo.  Perhaps there will be a day when Weber goes the way of Charbroil.

@cwestsmokin did you include pictures in your correspondence? I'd keep at them.

@randy the paint run wouldn't bother me. I recently got a replacement 26 bowl with a paint run, but more to the point here, I think more paint > less paint, yeah? (Especially on the inside.) As Jeff said, take the first one back to the dealer. Those sockets don't look like bare metal (looks like black paint from here) but they also look like shit, and frankly so does the bowl rim. I'm staring at an older Dark Blue that's never been used and the sockets have perfect paint all over them.

Since they aren't H-D or Lowe's they won't be expecting a "return" but an Alliance dealer has a lot at stake with Weber.

Everyone: Use something public, like Twitter and Facebook's Weber page. Be courteous but persistent. Realize that the folks on the other end of the phone or email won't always act consistently.

It's hard to see in the picture, I'm definitely not a photographer but there is bare metal in there.

This! If this shit starts to hit social media with real people posting real pictures about real flaws that are not acceptable then I think they would quickly right this ship.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread!

I've been angling toward getting a LE kettle for my father-in-law's birthday.  And up until yesterday, I thought I'd just order it, hope for the best, and count on Weber CS to make things right in the end.  But after these disturbing reports today, we went ahead and ordered the Mastertouch.  Kinda disappointed, but didn't want him to have a disappointing kettle that came with lots of CS hassles.

Really sorry to see this big new product push coming to a very disturbing end.  I still hope that Weber will make it right, but I just don't want to risk it when it's a gift for someone else...

Hate to say it but it's almost a form of public shaming, right? In recent years there was all this stuff about Comcast not responding/listening unless you tweeted about them. There's something to be said about publicly letting a company know a paying customer has an issue.

More hype to ignore: What if warranty claims outstrip supply ... could the "oh, that's an acceptable trait" attitude be a result? Let's hope not.

Mine just showed up and it is actually in pretty good shape.  My red is deep and sprayed heavy throughout.  I have a drip inside as well but it does not affect the sweeps.  Handle is missing red on top of one side but not horrible.  As for the leg sockets, totally raw metal in all three.   Do I keep it and try to paint inside the sockets?  Should not have to do that after spending $200.

Don't keep it. Try to get it replaced. Another call is another case to be made of how bad they are doing their customers now.
