Patent Pending Texan.

Backstory: about six months ago I aquired this beauty from @AZRaptor .
It has sat in my garage ever since. Today I was cleaning grills and decided to get this thing ready for a turn in the rotation.
I used some #0000 steel wool to remove some old paint splatters, and scraped the bowl with a razor blade.

I decided to start a fresh coating of gunk with some jalapeno poppers:

They turned out pretty good:

Some elk/bacon burgers came next:

This old thing cooks as good as it looks!

Not bad for $17. Got some work ahead of me. No charcoal grate. New thin, flimsy cooking grate. Bowl is caked in grime. However, vents are in great shape and move freely. I will start a new thread, but any thoughts on age?
Still need a 22" yellow

Big bowl vent tabs, all plastic wheels w/snap-in whitewalls,
1977-1980.
I gotta see the lid vent to narrow it down from there.

That vent with plastic wheels should mean that your kettle is from 1977.

I now have a pair of Weathered Warriors.

This is honestly my favorite "color" with copper being a close second.

just need one more Weber....

I've been hunting for a grill with some patina for awhile. Spotted this 77 locally and picked it up yesterday. Did a quick clean up and handle restore. Then went crazy with the camera. Later, cooked up some Usingers Italian sausage, man they were good!

Thanks!...  No, it's a faded black. I can see how you'd think that though. It's weird, like the porcelain just changed color. Still has a shine too, I'm kind of fascinated by it.

northwestkettle

Wow that is one of the coolest fades I think I've ever seen
