Well, I brought the old thing home and went to work. It was in rough shape!
I used a rubber mallet, some big pliers, and a block of wood to smooth out the dents and straighten the handles. The back bowl handle was smashed flat, and the sockets and handles are not aligned.
A spare undercarriage that I had in the bone pile got put to use, along with some old plastic handles.
The lid now fits nice and snug, and the vents are pretty good. I think that she will cook nicely. I am going to surprise my friend with it this weekend. I will try to get a picture of him cooking on it!
