A friend just commented about having to clean his grill before posting any pictures.  It got me thinking.  And wondering.

Do you guys clean your grills?  I clean the grates before cooking, and maybe once every year or so do a thorough cleaning, but how often do you guys clean your grills?

Isn't a dirty grill a badge of honor?  It means you cook on it often?

What's your opinion?

I do one hell of a clean up on a grill I pick up used.  But once I start using it, meh....
I've always had gas...  And now a bunch of kettles because of this place.  Thanks!

When I buy a used grill, I try to bring it as close to new as I can. For all I know someone has puked in it. after that I'll do a scrape out once a year to avoid the whole grill catching fire.

I must suffer from OCD cause I clean after every cook
I hate cooking on something that smells like what I cooked last time
And I love lifting the grill and having a nice clean cooking area
I mean you guys wash your plates and cutlery after you use them don't you???
I'm only 2 or 3 kettles away from being that creepy guy down the street with all the Webers

Butcher paper and bare hands, unless I'm in a hurry then you just eat straight from the grate

I cleaned the lid on my mini-WSM (SJS) today. I couldn't move the upper vent without warming it up with a fire.
kettles, smokers...

Mine get the full inside-out treatment at least once a year, I detail my bowls and lids several times a year, my kettles are like classic cars. I drive them, and I wash them. On my One Touch kettles, I remove and clean the hex nut and thumbscrew to keep it from rusting solid, twice a year. (a beeyatch to drill out), I'll be interested to see how the "H" style holds up. As for the grates, I do a burn off, fire's the best cleaner.

My main cookers get a decent scraping before every cook, once a year I try to give them a good cleaning....

I brush my grills before cooking and I bet the 400-500 degree heat will sterilize them.

BTW.  Looks like someone went to Rudy's or someplace in Lockhart, Llano or Austin.  :)
