DIY Almost Poor Man's Vortex
« on: October 05, 2016, 10:32:31 AM »
So Almost Poor Man's 'Vortex' Project

a) Get a big Blanda bowl from IKEA (around 7 euro)
b) Cut base with a grinder

Too much time spending in playing with Weber stuff than grilling... Items have to be tested soon
If you can afford a Vortex just buy it. It seems it's an idea worth spending it.

I have no patience (or practical skill) for cutting stainless so I just used a stovepipe reducer.

Genius.  didn't think of that.  Are those galvanized?  do you just do a dry run to try and burn off the galvanizing?

The one I bought is 24 gauge carbon steel.  Like this one.

Just made a few cuts in the crimped end and folded them over to reduce the height.  Drilled a few 1/4" holes to help airflow as well.

Would love to see a pic of that in action.

A friend and I did the same thing only using our Ranch kettles and a regular 22.5 Kettle.  We use it by putting the meat in the middle, and running the coals around the outside almost like charcoal baskets.

Interested in ANY offset handle SJs you may have.
