Performer Deluxe--2015 vs 2016
« on: September 29, 2016, 05:05:52 PM »
New here, but think I came to the right place. My old 22.5" kettle is on its last legs (tabs inside the bowl that hold the charcoal grate are rusted off, etc) and I'm looking to upgrade to a new Performer Deluxe. As much as I like the standard black finish, I was thinking of going with the copper. Then today I found that Crimson is also available. Without doing too much research, it appears to me that the Crimson is a 2015 model and the copper 2016.

Are there any differences in them functionally?  They look the same to me. I'd prefer the Crimson if it is the same, but if the copper is functionally better I'd take that. Thanks for any advice you can give

Welcome to the WKC! You'll like it here. I assume you are from Ohio? I'm in Columbus. It's my understanding that the 2015 and 2016 are the same as far as features and function. Big change was from 2014 to 2015. I have a 2014 crimson and I like it. If you like the crimson then go with the 2015. Note, I bought my performer at Straders in 2015 but it was a 2014 model. I bought it in October and I asked for $100 off and got it. Ask for a lower price since stores are making room for other merchandise.

Edit:

You might be getting a dark gray metal table with the 2016 and a light gray plastic table with the 2015. Personally the metal table looks better to me but that is just aesthetic.

Well the metal table will perform much better.  It won't crack or break.  I have the copper and love it, both look awesome.  Even if the crimson had a plastic table it can always be retro fitted with the metal one....oh and welcome

Crimson is still available. The big difference between 2014-2015 is the metal table vs plastic table.

Sorry! I was wrong. Right now weber shows Black, Copper or Green for the Performer.

Thanks guys. Just what I needed to know. I really think the metal table looks better and would be my preference. Gonna go ahead and order the copper. Appreciate the advice about asking for a lower price as well, but with two kids in travel sports I don't have the time to shop around. Probably gonna order from Amazon.

I'm from Ohio but been in Maryland for 14 years now.

You won't regret it. My Copper Performer is pretty much my go to grill.

I also have a 2016 copper Performer Deluxe from Amazon.
Love the gas starter and use it to start a chimney even if cooking on a different kettle.

Maybe I am wrong, but didn't the lid holder also change 2015 vs 2016 with the 2016 being better ?

Cheers

I've got a 2015 Crimson which I got through Ace Hardware. I think True Value sells them too. Another really nice change in 2015 was a wider lid bale which lets the lid open wider. Much better!

@MD Buckeye  I think mcgolden is correct.  The enhanced lid bale and dark "metal" table were the major changes from 2014 to 2015.  Minor changes may have been different cooking grates, etc.   Look around, you can probably find a Crimson w/ the 2015 features.   Oh, and welcome to the WKC from Eugene, OR.

I would not consider a plastic table over a metal table.  The difference is huge.

Thanks again guys.  It looks like I can indeed find Crimson with the metal table.  Found it here at ACE and can pick up in a local store:

http://www.acehardware.com/product/index.jsp?productId=50759396

From what I can see in that picture, the lid holder looks exactly the same as on the 2016 Copper version.  I think I will be the proud owner of one of these tomorrow.

Cool. Come back and pose pics once you have it all put together. I'm trying to get a metal table for my crimson because I think it looks better.

That's awesome.  Congrats on the new grill.  Nice color and ACE is the place for sure when you want Weber stuff quickly.  They also have some options that aren't available in big box stores, or even on their website.  Easiest example is the EP line of the Genesis.

I ordered last night and picked up today. Got there and it was the display model. I had already paid online or I would have tried to knock some off the price. Anyway, it was put together well and showed no wear and tear, so I guess I should be thankful that they saved me an hour or so of assembly. The Crimson is more of a brick red than it looked online. Slightly orange-ish. Looks like open pit bbq sauce. Rained all day today, so it will get its inaugural cook tomorrow. Will post some pics then as well.

Thanks for all the help. Much appreciated.
