Are the black ones the penthouse models that I've seen in some of the older catalogs, or were they all intended for boats?

No, these are boat grills (Galley Que).  I have not been able to locate a Penthouse or Wishing Well.  However, Barrel Que - (yes), and George's Original (outside of Weber HQ) - (yes)

I didn't notice the cable attachment before. There's a chain on the blue. Is this aftermarket?

No, not aftermarket. The chain screws into the leg then wraps around the lid.  Keeps the lid safe. The other blue is missing the chain.

I believe 1981 was the last year.  The black one on the far right is a "C" code (1981).
