Nice salvaged 18" kettle
« on: August 07, 2016, 05:57:07 PM »
I was cleaning out the old family vacation condo right before we sold it and I found this in the garage. I imagine it is from the 80's but I don't know how to identify how old it is. Anyone know???

I've done nothing to it but scrub it down with some Simple Green before these pics. It is in amazing shape for how old I think it is and needs a new charcoal grate soon but everything else is good to go.
 ;D

Nice red. Early-mid 70s. Depending on the bowl vents.

3 bottom vents. not sure what other details are relevant.

Sorry I should clarify, do the turn tabs match the lid vent (small single turn tab) or are the dual wide turn tabs?

Ok thanks I missed that. Looks like a 73-74 vintage.

Really nice family heirloom @Jeff H. That charcoal grate looks fine except for a little heat sagging. Take it out, put it on the ground sagging side up and step on it.  You'll have a perfectly straight grate again.

Cool Thanks for the info. I didn't realize it was that old. Pretty darn good shape considering the age.

That one is in pretty good shape. Often times the older ones are found in better shape than some 10-15 kettles... Of course, a lot of it depends on owner and care/maintenance.
