Detroit SSP Pic Heavy

First, I need to be clear that I do not support the Lions.  They are not even my favorite team in their lame division.


I recently cleaned this up as a house warming gift for my brother who recently moved here from MI.  He does like the Lions.  God only knows why.

No, I have an extra Performer Bowl in Black.  My regular (for now) go to SSP is a Dark Green.  I needed a 2nd grill for a party and used this frame, but didn't want to dirty the bowl, so used the Black I had laying around.

It is certainly far from perfect.  I see a lot nicer ones here.  I don't have the patience that others do.  It does look better in person than the pics show.  It also has a lot of pitting.  That is a converted old style catcher.

Thanks. Didn't do it all. He needs a cover, so didn't get the new lid bale.


He also didn't get the gniter mod. I have it, it is fine, but I'm not a fan of how the control panel and button fit together. Frankly, the manual button works as well.

I did move the burner back and neatened up the wiring. This allows the igniter to be positioned, out of view and less vulnerable to damage, above the burner tube, rather than below.

Yes to SS H drive, converted to new ash system.


Yes to lock nut on vent, works so much better, doesn't loosen with use.


What you can't see and I haven't mentioned, it was a pain and I won't do again, also, I was not happy with the results and I don't think it will really help, is I cleaned the inside of the frame pieces and then coated with POR15. It ended up being poured in, I think to thick. I needed to trim it back a little and it seems like it may come off in layers.   Hopefully it won't trap moisture and accelerate corrosion.

It wasn't pretty, but ! forced a rag saturated with solvent through the frame members (It was tied to a rope and pulled through).  It didn't remove rust, but removed anything loose.  Hopefully creating a surface the POR could bond to.  Next time I might clean with solvent then let dry and simply blast some spray paint in.
