Fleetwood 26
« on: June 01, 2016, 02:52:27 PM »
Slowly working on the Fleetwood 26r that MadMax gifted me. Since school has let out it has become a slow project but has progressed.

I gave it a good clean up inside and out which wasn't bad. Mark had done it a year or so ago. I had a buddy tac the leg sockets. They were holding, but bent and one one spread. Not big deal. I put in a self tap screw to hold the leg.

Haven't gotten to the vents yet, and just sanded the handle. I believe it will look fine once varnished.

It was missing a charcoal grate and ash pan when I got it so after talking with weber c/s we found that a 22" wsm charcoal grate will work. So today I did my first fire with two chimneys and a split of hickory.

She a cooker, not a looker, but she's beautiful. An ol' school 26r.

Here are some before' and now, in progress.

Nice work! Did you use Pam/oil on the lid to restore the black color?

Yes I did. Sprayed it down really good and got a hot fire going in it. Really turned out nice

@Travis Hey that 26 is looking great. Is that charcoal grate working out? I'm still going to mess with some expanded metal to fabricate one.

So far so good Steve. Like we talked about before that grate is actually 18" instead of 19", but it does fit on the tabs. I didn't have any issues with it yesterday when I did a burn in and just dumped in the two chimneys and was moving coals around.
