Found Coshell charcoal at Trader Joes

I haven't used this before, gonna try it out on a reverse sear ribeye tomorrow.

I recall some folks finding it at Lowes last year but my local store didn't carry it.

I talked with the store manager just yesterday about availability, as they only had a couple bags left. He said they were going to get another pallet of the Coshell very soon.

I'm liking it for use with my Kettle Pizza

Same cost here in Tallahassee. They had two pallets outside and after speaking with an employee they thought it'd last an eternity.

I have heard of this charcoal, but never used it. Why is this such good charcoal? Someone enlighten me. I may have to find some?

Anyone here on the east coast ever see CoShell at TJ's or any other stores? Seems more prevalent out west. Would love to try but shipping is a deal breaker.

Lowe's clearanced it last winter, i think it was, for ~$4/bag so I bought what they had. Down to 1.5 bags left.

It's overall good stuff- takes a little longer to light than usual (I use a weed torch so that's no issue for me) but it lasts a long time and can burn hot if you want it to. It burns clean, imo. I primarily use lump and so this stuff has what I consider a high ash content, but it's a briq so I expect that.

Personally I wouldn't pay regular retail for it- I'd stick w/ lump. ymmv

On edit- sorry, forgot to address your ques. I haven't seen it in my usual haunts, but i haven't sought it out. I'll keep an eye out.

I checked TJ's and Earth Fare in Charlotte and they do not have it now.  TJ's might have it later in the spring.  Then while searching online I found it could be ordered here at this unlikely site and at a good price....until I noticed the bags were only 3.3 pounds for $3.99.

It does take longer to light.
But it will burn hotter and longer than lump.
It does produce ash, but if you factor in the higher density of coshell - it actually produces less ash per pound than most other briquettes
