Easy Loose Leg Solution
« on: August 20, 2015, 04:25:09 AM »
I've had Loose leg issues on MANY of the craigslist kettles i've grabbed. Every move led to collapsing. It was quite a hassle. I was pondering drilling sockets and adding thumb screws but wanted other ideas. I searched the site and found some.

I've tried the broom stick method described here:
http://weberkettleclub.com/forums/weber-kettles-accessories/shakey-leg-syndrome/msg60249/#msg60249
but it didn't seem to work.

I've tried Wrapping leg in aluminum foil and one kettle i bought came with legs and sockets wrapped in duct tape: It looked hideous but it gave me an idea. The combination of the above: HVAC Foil Tape

http://www.homedepot.com/p/Nashua-Tape-1-89-in-x-50-yd-322-Multi-Purpose-HVAC-Foil-Tape-1207792/100030120

I grabbed a roll of this a while back to block off one touch vents when i used to use a pitmaster iq on my kettle, before i had a WSM and even use it for its designed use on my AC vents from time to time.

I wrapped around the top of the leg and voila! legs are snug and tape fits in the socket. Even if a sliver of tape stuck out below the socket, the tape finish matches leg so it looks clean. I gave the whole kettle a strong shake and all three legs were stable. Cheap quick easy fix to a common problem.

I just told another WKC member about this. I have been doing it for years. It works great.

Gave my buddy a 97' three wheeler, a few weeks ago. Had a loose front leg. This was recommended, and worked like a charm!
Still need a 22” yellow
