I decided to start small and try out the WKC cleanup techniques on some Smokey Joes.
The first was a J code that sat on CL for a long time so I finally I went to look at it. It was pretty rough so I generously gave the guy $5. Scrubbed it out with dish soap, went at it with a razor and steel wool, then replaced the handle with one taken from a gas go-anywhere that I coated in spar varnish. Wire legs and ash catcher were soaked in Evaporust and polished with steel wood. I was able to contour some fender washers and squeeze the legs on with a washer on each side of the bowl to reinforce the leg holes which were enlarged due to rust.
The C code came from a member. I haven't found a three wheeler 22" so this will have to do for the time being. It got the same treatment, but I did what I could to save the "Weber The One, The Only" handle. It got cleaned up, a coat of stain and finished with spar varnish.
I'm pretty excited about my first two projects. My plans are to use the J as a mini WSM and the C as a tailgate grill.
