Limey mbh stands on her own 3 feet again
« on: July 13, 2015, 08:29:37 AM »
When I picked this up about a month ago, one leg socket came off (very cleanly I must say) as I gently place the grill in the trunk, and one of the vents separated from its rivet. (Should have waited to lube it).

Finally got around to mending the socket this a.m. I did the drill and bolt method I've seen here. I made starter indentations w/ a very small bit, then used a step bit. It seems to be pretty solid. I may change the bowl washers for the big ones- forgot what they're called- to get more bite on some good metal.

Is there some stop-rust stuff I should apply to the socket feet and the corresponding rust spots on the bowl?

oh yeah...finally got around to using my AH Copper--it's been assembled in the house for 51 weeks!-- to cook some north atlantic cod Saturday...first time grilling fish and it was fantastic- juicy as can be. Lump & cherry.

A beauty of a lime!!  Outstanding restore.  :D

And, fish on the kettle …. Love it!  Yeah, I don't cook fish in the oven much anymore.  8)

i'd consider using some larger washers on the inside of the bowl.  that's weakened metal and more area of pressure holding the socket is probably a good thing.  just my .02.

it's a beautiful lime, great restore.

also a big fan of the copper!
I only use kettles with lid bales.

My new pick up had one of the sockets starting to come off of the bowl so I had it welded back up for me as well as one of the holders for the grates
