I just purchased my first Weber charcoal grill, a ss performer. I notice that the bowl has some rust and that this seems to be somewhat common with the kettles.

- What causes this, and is ther any way to prevent it?

- How can I repair this? I was thinking of Por15. Otheer than that are there any otherr options?

Thanks

Whereabouts is the rust happening?

Either a bit more description or a few pics if you're able & we'll be able to help better......

An SS is now a few years back, but that doesn't mean it can't be cleaned & cleared of rust & tuuf to close to brand new.....

Por 15 has a high heat version, but it may not be the thing to use depending on where the fix needs to happen......

Looks to me like the previous owner had some pretty hot fires concentrated in that area of the kettle. If you have a dremel, you can use the wire brush, hit the areas of rust and then seal it with an oil of some sort.

holy jesus.

i would replace that.
call weber and show them.
they might replace for free, or at least give a discount on a new bowl.
(if you tell them you bought it used, they're not going to do anything for you)

Actually Troy, I have bought used kettles with damage and called Weber and told them so.  While not free I did get discounts on the parts I needed.
It never hurts to try.
