Pre-Weber Kettle?

Not sure if it was a commercial product or not, but looks like an early kettle-type grill. Couple of wash tubs maybe? Anyone?

That is a Old Smokey, they are still made in TX and have been since the 40's.  You can see the word Old on the lid in that picture.  Where did you find that picture?

Cool. Never knew about them. Might be fun to fire one up. The pic came from Flickr on a random search. Love it when stuff like that pops up. I always learn something. Here's the old smokey history from their page:

I know of a few midwestern folks that have them (From Smoke Ring)

They work fine, lots of headroom above the cooking grate.....

Downside is that you HAVE to store them inside as they will not take to the rain & snow like a Weber !!!!

Non-bulletproof, in other words..... 8)

Those things are as thick as fleas around here. Got to love the seated grilling position, makes me think about all the Flay-ling, Emeril bamming, hot shots running around their grills doing this and that. Cut the vents back, ease down into your chair and let the grill do the work.

Wish I knew. My Uncle Leon came up from Texas City in the late 70s with a Redi-Smoke electric smoker. My Granny was so impressed with it that she got him to bring her one the next time he came back up. She turned out many a fine chicken on that machine. The reason I mention it is that Old Smokey bought them out and the one they sell now is identical to hers except for the color, hers was orange, and yes, I still have it.
