Is your Internal Ash Pan Rusted out?

So I know a few of you have got your hands on those internal ash pans from a Happy Cooker.  From what I've seen on most of them...they are pretty rusted out and almost ready for recycling.  Well...I found one and have the same issues with rust in the bowl part of it.
I found what may be an easy fix for that.  What I used was an ash pan from a 22" kettle.  I don't know what year this pan is from, or if there are variations on the outside diameter over the years.  I placed the Weber ash pan into the Happy Cooker internal pan, and as you can see...this one is a darn near perfect fit as you can see.  The vents of the internal pan are still open, and the Weber pan is the same shape as the bowl area.
Hopefully this will make some of your internal pans more usable now!  Good luck.

And what a perfect fit!

Awesome idea Jeff! The ash pan looks like one of the post 2009 ones. Basically the current style. I've noticed that the stores around here in my city no longer sell replacement ash pans...

Lol...that stump carving made me do a "WTF?!" double take.

I'm at a loss here. How far up on the awesomeness Totum pole does the internal ashpan sit? Obviously it's better than the regular silver pan...and I could see that it's possibly better than a gold ash bucket. Is it better than the bucket for functionality? Even I get a little spillage from the OTG setup. Or is it more a matter of coolness and rarity?

@Troy  the premium jumbo joe 22 that wally world sells will make a close  fit ///  if you cut it about 2 1/2 inches above the charcoal grate it looked like the measurements would let it sit down into a reg 22 kettle   // one good thing about that would be  //  you could bank coals  and not be close to grail grills  porcelain finish   (rare colored grills )

@MINIgrillin  I think the pans help with cleanout of three wheeler `s mostly

MINIgrillin

Ahh..don't have one of those. Didn't think of that

great idea Jeff, mine is not rusted but I may do that anyway.

I am not a collector, but I do have a small collection.

In addition to making 3 wheeler clean up easier, I think that some folks find that it also makes it a bit easier to control temps for low n slow....

Much more of an airflow thing, but also good for easy cleanup......sits down inside the kettle bowl in case that's not already apparent.......the air comes thru the series of little side holes very evenly all the way around...

Slap me if I'm stating the obvious..... :o

A must have for low n slow and for throwbacks like me that cook on the Kettles of yore..

Airflow thing.. Interesting. I wasn't expecting that. Clean up is obvious but airflow.
