Kettle Karl

Picked this one up this morning for $20. I couldn't resist, especially since all my current kettles are 22.5". A few chips here and there, but nothing too bad for a kettle this old. Wife thinks I'm nuts as this is the second kettle I bought off Craigslist in a week, and I'm supposed to be getting the nursery ready! I'm sure everyone reading this can relate.

Anyone know of an exact engine enamel paint match?

MacEggs

That is a sweet score!!

Me thinks that's a 22.5" ... So, keep up your search for an 18".  :) ;)
Q: How do you know something is bull$h!t?
A: When you are not allowed to question it.

That's a keeper! The Blue 22.5" MBH is pretty elusive.

You are correct MacEggs, it's a 22.5"!! Learn something new everyday, like maybe I should've measured. Even better, now I can hunt for an 18.5"!!

If I didn't know the difference the wife won't either so my purchase is still justified in her eyes!

I think the thing that threw me off is all my kettles until this one are Performers. I have two Performer SS Kettles and two newer ones (2014 Platinum and 2015 Deluxe), and the cart sure makes the kettle look bigger.

Yep Troy, this was the one in Orange. Drove 30 miles up the road this morning to pick her up. The cleanup has begun.

Wow!!! That is a great bloody find for any price. A blue MBH is one of the cookers I would love to add.

The initial cleanup went well, but required a lot of razor blade action to scrape it clean.

Just ordered a leg, triangle, and wheel kit to buy back some time. I'll polish up the old ash catcher.

it's slightly lighter than ford corporate blue.

congrats on a great score today!
I only use kettles with lid bales.

Don't bother with the engine paint...IT WILL TURN BLACK, I have been here before it will not stay.  Unless you plan to never cook on it.  Just get it nice and add clean as you can.

Very nice pickup Kettle Karl! When you get a chance, please share a pic of the lid vent when it's all shined up.

Absolutely correct.  Apply a little vegetable oil from time to time ...
The "scars" show character and hold on to the stories of a 35+ year old Weber kettle.  :D
