If http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000HHO4W6/ref=nosim/?tag=fatwalletcom&linkCode=as1&ascsubtag=ebs2d-1d1d1415574798403sbe&sourceName=forums&sourceId=1403493 is used to start a chimney of charcoal, does the fatwood cause any off flavors from the pine resin?

from all I've ever heard or read, you don't use pine to cook. with that in mind, I wouldn't use them for cooking in any way(to include starting the coals). if you just want an easy way to get a non-cooking fire going, they should do the trick.

Why not just use the Weber starters or a chimney?
Fatwood is great for the chimney, but I agree, not the grill..

I use them for my fireplace but I would never use them for starting charcoal. Use a paper towel with a little cooking oil on it.
