I made mine for far less. It has help up great, but it does not stay out in elements 24/7 either.

Like Greg, I made my own for a OTP that had an infamous cracked table.  It was cheap and has held up nicely through the Summer.  I cover it though...but it has plenty of coats of spar on it to protect it from the elements.

That's a sweet idea. I have access to a cabinet shop and could bang these out in no time. Wonder how a butcher block countertop would look? It would be 1 1/4" thick. You could use it like a cutting board and would be thick enough to sand down and refinish a few dozen times.

It will work. I could not find one wide enough. pre-fab. Hence, I made do by making one.

No glue used. It is held together from the backside with screws. 1 x 4 underneath, in two locations. Very front and just in from the Kettle.

cross braced 1"x4"s?

have you ever used a kreg jig?  you wouldn't need the 1x4. 

not my work just a google image, kinda sloppy but you get the idea. 


they're like $40 at menards, love the thing.  almost feel like a pro using it.

Never used a Kreg Jig. But I have less than that invested in the table.
More cave man style, as not many look down under...

@glrasmussen   don't get me wrong, it looks great.  that's why i asked if you used a kreg's to begin with.  the finished top looked like you may have. 

is that mahogany?  kinda looks like it from the grain patterns.
