Has anyone used POR-15 for touch ups? or other engine paints for touching up?

i've used it on rusty automobile frames with great success.  awesome product that won't let rust come back, like ever.

that was 15 years ago and now they make hi-temp paints in various colors for engine blocks and super hi temp in a few shades of grey/black for exhaust manifolds.

POR-15  is the goods......I haven't got to their paint yet, but did test out some regular hi-heat spray
(1300f) with OK results.....

It didn't hold up to direct banking of coals & discolored some....I also got the clear coat a little thick on the top of the lid & it would stay a little tacky under heat............

sorry but you gotta keep up i had two dunkin's this morning already and i don't stay still on the weekend. 

so you used a spray?  was it from POR that way or did you use a thinner and gun?  (was thinking thinner could cause it to now hold up as well to heat) or was it thin enough to shoot without clogging? 

the exhaust spray comes in three shades and should hold up to higher temps than the engine block paint.

but the only place the engine paint discolored on my old skylark was around the exhaust ports on the heads.

no, mine was just VHT & such.....spray from the auto parts store..............

i've just recently heard of a place here in town hat caries all kinds of paint inluding hi-heat stuff, but have not checked into it yet....

For a guaranteed stable coating, but very limited color choice, what I wanted to try at some point was ceramic-aluminized coating.....

these guys are around the corner from me, we used to have the shop right next door.  i know a couple guys there, i should stop by with a box of donuts and a kettle lid.  see what they give me back.

Why just bring the lid only?

 

thing about it is it has to be very clean & grease free for cerm. & powder coating or it screws up the liquids in their tanks...............
