Just picked this up for $10, and its my first Smokey Joe. I know its not too old, but it has the wooden handles, it has the pat # and says Palatine. I was originally thinking it was a 78 because I cant really make out or see a letter date, but its Palatine and not Arlington Heights. After some scrubbing, it looks like it could be an upside down "K" but would think if it was a 88, it wouldn't have the pat#. Anyone shed any light?

I'm pretty sure the bowl would have 3 daisy wheels if it was a '78. An '88 could very well be likely; I'm not sure if they still had this style leg in '88 or not. Someone more knowledgable will chime in here soon...

Yep, looks like an upside-down/sideways K to me.  That makes it a 1988.   That style leg went up through the early 1990's.
