A Few Minor Mods to My OTGs.
« on: July 25, 2014, 09:13:58 PM »
I have a few kettles. My family thinks that I have too many! Three of my kettles seem to be the ones that I use the most. They are all black One-touch Gold models; a DI 18.5, a DU 22.5 and a DE 26.75. None of these are pristine and new, nor are they classic show pieces. These are just solid every day cookers that are in good shape for their age.
The last one that I acquired was the 26er (thanks G$!) and I liked the lid thermometer and the black triangle and ash pan. All three of these kettles were due for a good detail job, so I thought that I would match them up while I was at it. I picked up a couple more lid thermometers, some spray paint, metal polish and... BEAUTIFUL HANDLES FROM BRIAN! I then waited for the hottest week of the year (115°) to put it all together.

I do like black kettles! Thanks for looking!

I would disagree... they look fantastic! Was the 18 an original OTG, or did you mod it?

Bob the 18 is an original OTG. I picked it up in a trade from G$ also. (Please don't tell him that I drilled a hole in the lid!):-[

I would take those 3 black beauty's any day. Nice work and love the handles. Those ash pans came out nice. And I agree with you what is it about us desert dwellers that we have to do the stuff we enjoy during the most extreme heat we get all year. We need to have our head checked. Just 2 days ago the girlfriend asks just how hot does it have to be for me not to grill? I laughed and said is there such a thing as not grill?!? Silly people who don't know.

Just surfaced for air, 13 hours in trucker mode on the road yesterday as I make my way back from Chicago. Round 2 this afternoon as I move into the apartment in Odenton MD. Bunch of furniture swapping at home here in PA this morning. When I added it up, I realized this is my 17th move. Enough already! Now back to your regularly scheduled programming...

The three grillskateers are awesome! Love the pool reflections, the matching handles, therms, triangles and ash buckets. Great job!

Thanks everyone for the kind words.
I had these three torn apart for a week so I have been cooking on my old daisy wheel 22". I like cooking on it but there are ashes everywhere!
