Nice catch: A 47cm (18") Brownie in Germany.
« on: July 20, 2014, 11:07:13 PM »
Hello everyone…

I made a score on ebay a few days ago. A couple from the Frankfurt-area has cleaned up their farm and – among other things – had a small kettle grill for sale.

At this kettle the original Weber Sidekick table from the 90s was attached, which has aroused my real attention. Now the grill was about 200 miles away. I called a friend who lives near there (and who comes every weekend to my area because his family lives here) and he has brought the kettle with him unceremoniously.

It´s a 1981 "Code C" 47 centimeters (18 ") "Coconut". In really great condition. You would probably say "mint condition". I have cleaned it a little and he stands there like new. Several smaller spots in the porcelain/enamel are damaged, but these are mere blemishes.

I am proud of her ...

Wow !!! Look her legs(insert wolf whistle)
The legs look sort of similar to a Thrifty Kettle
The front leg looks like a standard rear leg with a front mounting bracket
Great Score by the way!!

Super cool! Is that a badge of some kind on the cooking grate? Thanks for posting!

On the cooking grate is a welded-on badge, on which is posted "CAUTION! Do not use spirit or petrol for lighting or re-lighting!". Of course it is in german on the badge.

Is the badge welded or is it a piece of aluminum folded over the bars of the cooking grate?
We had the same badges on 80's kettles in OZ and it was folded

I think it is folded over the bars. But i thought it was welded… The Kettle ist now in my parents' yard – i can have a look about end of the week.

  First, Tim., Welcome here!!!!

2nd, the leg setup looks different than any we've seen before.....very different.....

See here these two 47cm kettles, very new & very old, from another post:

http://weberkettleclub.com/forums/weber-kettles-accessories/mount-prospect-il/msg116372/#msg116372

It appears the front leg on your Brownie is a back leg, inverted, with an additional fitting of some type to stabilize it........the back legs, I've never seen anything like the curved structure near the wheels......very unique.......

It may have been the original owner fixed this up somehow, as a re-fit from the standard Weber set........or, a very rare Weber prototype of some kind.......................stranger things have been seen from Weber, as they developed styles in the past.......

at any rate, very extra nice kettle........a nice surprise to see that they are hiding in barns & garages all over the world & congratulations for rescuing a piece of history !!!!!!
"If you want it fancy there is BBQ spray paint at home depot for that. "
    Covered, damper-controlled cooking.....IF YOU PLEASE !!!

I see the point… the front leg was obviously fitted with the hole for the grit in the lower section underneath the kettle.
As I heard the he original owner was the same old guy which sold the kettle to me.

They used it, held it in great shape and they don´t seem to me as "kettle-tuners".
Perhaps its kind of a weber-idea to test a different style… who knows.

At the first moment i thought of chance the three-wheeler in a one touch-system…
but i think it is good as is stands there in the yard.
