SJ best of both models
« on: April 24, 2014, 01:58:34 PM »
I like using the SJS for small grilling cook ups, it gets nice and hot and is easy to use but the lid bale system on the SJG is great and makes it much easier to transport and carry around problem is I can't seem to get it as hot as the SJS
So when JoCool picked up this old beater for me I decided to convert it

This SJ seriously had a hard life, the bowl had inch holes where the legs attached from rusting out, the legs and lid bale were full of rust and it could of quite easily ended up in the scrap yard
I managed to find some washers to suit, fitted some new hardware, legs and lid bale.
I then ordered some dampers from Weber and fitted it out

And it's ready to go, it just needs an zandle.
I think it needs a name, it's not a gold or silver model anymore, any ideas on what to call a SJS/G combo?
I'm only 2 or 3 kettles away from being that creepy guy down the street with all the Webers

Electrum!  Or Electrum Green!

Electrum is a Silver/ Gold alloy.

Excellent thread.
It seems that the Silvers are favored for the Mini WSM and this illustrates why...better air induction.

BTW, Sonex 28 liter stock pot available in Oz is supposed to be a perfect fit.

This one was built in Wales and I like that pot....it's a Sonex 28 liter.
They are shipped to the UK and Oz.
You will have to check with your restaurant/catering supply stores...bring your SJ to check fitment.

Many threads if you search on Mini WSM or Smokey Joe conversion.

Nice, Hogsy! Weber mods with OEM parts are my fave. How about the SJ Emerald edition?

I found some!

Joel, if you want one of these pots, I have found a guy that sells them at my usual on Saturday. I'm going to take an SJ down there in the next couple of weeks and verify that it fits and maybe get one. Let me know if you're keen, and I'll try and better our buying position.
