Ranch Kettle owners thread & showoff

Did anyone notice how many chimneys are needed to light up these beasts?

Here is the full stable - actually two of them are unusable - the first two I bought back in 2009. Can't seem to throw them away. As others have mentioned, you can light it up in a similar fashion to a WSM for low and slow (minion). Only need about 1/2 - 2/3 full chimney to get them going. Charcoal usage isn't that bad. You do have take care, as this thing will breathe like a dragon if you don't watch the vent settings.

Miller, you could probably cut up that burnt out one and make a nice charcoal ring for a SJ.

Scored my RK from CL in Feb. 13. The guy that had it for three years and cooked on it a few times each year. Downsizing to a condo, wife said the grill was a no go. Asking price was $600, it sat on CL for a few weeks then went down to $400. Made an offer of $300 and a deal was made  8). I don't think it took me 45 minutes to make the hour and a half drive!

I found my Ranch after it was posted at the TVWBB about 2.5 years ago. It was put there almost immediately and I was wishy washy about buying it for about 10 min. I ended up getting it 20 min after the listing went up for $125 buy it now, in Chicago of all places. There weren't as many people in Chicago then as there are now. That certainly wouldn't have lasted that long nowadays. My wife and I had a funny interchange about whether to buy it or not at the time. It went from check out this steal of a deal, to maybe we should buy it, to are we actually seriously considering buying it, to oh no, what have we done?!?!? good times!
