Dinner on the Daisy-Wheel 22.5~or~Introducing Black Bart!
« on: November 06, 2013, 07:38:26 PM »
Last month I picked up this well used EI 22.5 daisy-wheeler. He needed some work! G$ provided some leg, handle and ash pan help and I put in some elbow grease.
the leg socket welds were strong, but the bowl was dented in around each socket and the porcelain was damaged.

Someone had actually attacked this poor guy with a BB gun!
Somehow my twisted mind thought of a Red Rider, "A Christmas Story" "You'll shoot your eye out" and Ralphie shooting his favorite bad guy right in the ass.
...and now I have named this one "Black Bart"!

Getting ready...

Let's get cookin'!

Backward spatchcock...

Chugging along for an hour or so...

And done! One foil pouch holds asparagus with onions and red bell peppers and the other is Rutabagas, onions and garlic in butter!
Sorry that I didn't get more pictures during the cook, but it was too dark.
Thanks for looking!;)

Looks delicious. What kind of rub and how long did it take to cook the chicken.

Thanks!
I spent the afternoon replacing my water heater, so I didn't do a complicated prep.
I used Costco/Kirkland Sweet Mesquite seasoning and black pepper. Direct cook for one hour, skin side up for first 45 min. The asparagus was only on for the last 15 min.

Man your reverse spatchcock was throwing me off. It even looked like two of the same side of the chicken in the first pic. Nice cooks, keep up the good work!

The three wheeler is fun! I have yet to throttle it down for low & slow, But will hopefully do a pork shoulder on it next week sometime.

The OTG sure is more fun to clean up after though! ;)

One word: "Happy Cooker Ash Pan".  It makes cleaning up the three wheelers bearable.
