Made some old school handles, wasn't too tricky if you're a simple hobbyist like me, just need a few tools and happy to do a detailed "how to" for anyone interested. Used a propane torch and silver brazing rods to hold the studs in place. Proper solid and won't snap. Obviously you don't have to braze studs in you can just use coach bolts but I wanted the flush look. Finished with engine enamel capable of 800c

Nice work, looks very professional!  I like the smooth look on top of the bolts as well.

Cheers Greg, just fitted it to my 26 and works and looks well

Looks awesome, much preferred over the taco handle!

You guys should consider yourselves very lucky over there to have taco-less SJ's and GA's

I like this. I like this a lot !! @Tommie

But if you really want to impress me, make one with the little tabs that prevent the top piece of the wooden handle to "helicopter"...  :o  ;)

The above comment was tongue-in-cheek, so please don't anyone get all offended by it.  :'(

Haha, not at all mate! All good

The 2 holes to the left and right of the centre hole are countersunk underneath, so I've sent a small screw up into the handle from below. Next time I'll braze some small bits of metal facing upwards in those, I was just getting a bit excited to get it finished and fitted, but no helicoptering here!

Any chance you plan on selling some of these down the line? I might be interested in one for my blue 70th Anniversary Kettle...
I think I might need a bigger backyard soon...

I may be able to yeah, it would require spray painting by yourself though to protect it as it's not stainless steel. pretty easy though to do, there are companies on eBay that sell rattle cans in pretty much any colour of high temp paint, finding a colour match is the tricky part!

MacEggs I took your comment onboard and added some "chopper stoppers"

Also created more of a curve to the handle where it meets the lid to be more like original.

Mk1 on the left, mk2 on the right

I don't think I'll get a better match than that

My goodness, mate!
That is impressive, to say the least.
Chopper Stoppers.... Love it!!  :D

And thank you for replacing that hideous taco handle on the CGA.  ;D
I tolerate the taco handle on the 22" kettles, but I don't on any other size.
Doesn't look right... Well, except for the 26er maybe.

So nasty on the GA's and SJ's aren't they....

Unfortunately we don't have anyone here who does porcelain enamelling. There was someone on a nearby island but they've said never again as it's not cost effective to do small jobs, so when I saw this green one I seized the opportunity

All rattle canned up while taking a break at work today. This stuff worked fast, recoat in 10 mins, all coats in 30 or wait a week to rub it down and recoat or it reacts! Fitting tonight when the kids are in bed. Fingers crossed for a good color match but I think it works. Will post pics

Well, she's done. Over the moon with the fit and color match. Tough call whether it goes on display or I fire it up over the weekend. Cheers

Well done! Just about too pretty to get dirty. Great match on the color.
