My first cook on the Texan
« on: July 10, 2013, 04:42:14 AM »
I have resisted for I don't know why but I decided to give it a try.  Note Brian's beautiful walnut handle

Major down pour the other night, I was doing a beer can chicken which ended up being spatchcocked.

Coming down like cats and dogs.  I have never seen so much rain this late in the year.

There it is on the can, it was coking too fast on the white meat so I butterflied it.

I love the semi silhouette.

There she is butterflied,  I finished with with some local cherry BBQ sauce.

Hard to believe this beautiful grill was manufactured in the mid 60's.  I just did a clean up on a mid 70's copper mist and it has made me appreciated the condition of this one.
I am not a collector, but I do have a small collection.

Yes Ken, I put a couple of cheap bricks in there to do some indirect.

That looks great!
Now, I'm on the lookout for a 26er ... And an 18 ... a yellow ... it never ends, does it?  ;)

Rain, eh? Yeah, we've been getting a lot, too. Never seen my lawn so green this time of year.
It usually goes dormant .... turns brown ... don't need to cut it for 2 months. Turns green again in September.  :D 8)

Great looking chicken!!! And an excellent recovery on slowing down the cooking by splitting the bird!! Bravo!

Nice looking bird. Good to have options!

Our weather has been pretty wet this year as well. We had more rain in the first six months of '13 than we had all year '12. June was an all time record for rain fall. We now have about a week with no rain in the forecast - yay!
kettles, smokers...
