Older 18.5" - is it worth $75.00?

I found one on FB marketplace. There is only one pic, and it looks decent.  I messaged the seller, and asked if it had all the parts, water pans, etc.  He said it's missing a grate.  I don't know what year it is, but the handle is wooden and there's no thermometer on the lid.   I asked him what size, and he said it's 19" in diameter, so I'm assuming it's the 18.5 version.

Does $75.00 sound like a decent price?  It's about a 40 minute drive.

From the picture it looks to be in good condition. Yes I'd pick it up for $75 and move quickly or it will be gone!
It's at least 20 years old, which should not matter. I have a 1992 18" wsm that's still going strong.

Replacement grate is about $30.

I had already committed to buying it, before I posted, and your replies make me feel better about it, (I'm a notoriously cheap bastard).

The guy was asking $100.00...when he told me that it was missing a grate, I offered $75.00 and he accepted the offer.  It had only been listed for an hour, so I jumped on it.   I'm going to pick it up in the morning.

Congrats on a nice score! It's a great smoker. I've had my 18" wsm for over 20 years.

If you don't like it, you can always sell it for what you paid or more.

Thanks!   I'm on my way to pick it up now.    I have a couple of kettles, and even a gasser, that I've had for over 20 years myself    I've been wanting a WSM for years, but have been too cheap to pay for a new one.    I guess I'm about to go down that rabbit hole....

Good buy! Date code on lid air damper will tell you exactly how old it is. Nice to see the older cover included.

Got it!!  It's an "N" code and it's in great shape.  One grate is missing, and it needs is some cleaning....it looks gently used and there's moldy gunk on the grates.  I'll post pics in a new thread.

N date code dates it to 1991. Again, great pick up. Should be easy buying one or both food grates for a new clean start. I personally like smoking meats on the older 18" wsm. My regular go to smoker is a first year c code 18" wsm from 1981. Enjoy and send updated pictures.

Thanks!    I hope to get her cleaned up this weekend, weather permitting.  The grates, and the water pan, appear to be gunked up with some type of fuzz, rather than ruse. We'll see.  I'll try cleaning them up.  If that doesn't work, I'll pick up new grates.  I've cleaned up filthier grills.   I have a Jumbo Joe, so that cooking grate should fit.
