To Minion or not to Minion
« on: August 29, 2020, 03:17:47 PM »
So I've smoked meat using the Minion method several times and it worked out great with just vent regulating air.

I'm going to be using a BBQ Guru Cyberq controller this time that I got on a deal with a 22" WSM. Should I still do Minion method with a fan controller or just spread the lit coals over all the un lit coals?

If it were me I would use the minion method, to me the only difference is you are regulating the air with the fan controller vs natural air intake.
Wanted: 18" Platinum any color will work
This is my Kettle there are many like it but this one is mine......

Umm...If lit coals are spreading to unlit coals it's minion...No matter the layout...

With an ATC, I wouldn't light any coals. I would just drop a few starters in the middle of the charcoal and light the starters. In my experience with ATCs, it is a lot easier to dial in a temp when starting low and using the fan to bring the cooker up to temp rather than using the ATC to starve the fire from oxygen and bring the temp down.
