No code 14.5 WSM- pics
« on: July 26, 2020, 02:17:25 PM »
Interior unused, exterior somewhat abused, but I'm very happy for this little addition to the stable.

These 1st gen were made 81-'83, according to what I found on the Virtual Weber Bullet site. Has there been any updated info re the unstamped vents? I'd like to think these were the earliest of the early 1st gen. :)

Sick find. Those things are built like tanks and yours is also complete. Most of these are missing the water pan and lower grate. I don't recall all of the vent's on mine being stamped so it's possible they just built yours with vents from the unstamped pile. Did you check the bowl vents too? I think there was a "B" code of these found a while ago. Most of them are stamped "E", with a few stamped "C"

The giveaway on the pic is the single screw handle.
If it were older than a "B" or "C" it would have a dual rivet handle.
I scored an "E" code 14 and it was missing the lower grate. Nice score finding one complete.
I've got Webers. 10 - WSMs, 5 - 22.5" kettles, 2 - 18.5" kettle, 2 - SJS, 2 - SJP, 4 - WGA, 1 vintage Coolie Pan

This is very cool.  When i was at Weber they didn't have any examples.  When i did the 18 and 22 designs, I had to start fresh with the 14.  It would be interesting to see how close I was in positioning the door opening and grill strap relations.

The water pan of the 14 was actually the top half of the weber torch that was made at the time.  That wasn't being made in the late 2000s, so i tried a few from the Dollar Store and a partial stamp of the newer Weber torch.  I still have one of the few remaining 2006/8 prototypes and use it every so often.  Another was taken home by a guy in the machine shop so he could use it to burn documents and mail??

The other 4 were shelved because Weber thought like the first time, they wouldn't sell very well.

That's an excellent example.  Congratulations.
