NIB GGA 1996 LOGO 1503 & error in GA history
« on: May 07, 2020, 03:09:11 PM »
I ran across a gas go anywhere logo grill that was NIB.

Although I'm generally not that big on logos and not fond of gassers, I was interested because neither the part number 1503, nor what the logo allegedly is for (Shady Brook Farms) appeared in a search of the WKC.  I thought the name Shady Brook Farms sounded interesting & the handles were wood, so I figured it might be worth a bit of investigation.  I found there is a Shady Brook Farms that is a division of Cargill (a large family owned company that I'd heard of) and they sell frozen turkeys & turkey products (I don't recall every hearing of Shady Brook Farms).  The logo for Shady Brook Farms is in the last picture in this post.

Because it will become a bit important later, notice that the sticker that includes the model number 1503 is placed over box printing that indicates the model number 1530 and the color black (see area circled in red).

regards,
Hal

I really wasn't very keen on the logo, actually like the name better than the logo.

However, I thought the logo looked modern & figured they might have had a different logo back when wood handles were around (1999 or 2000, forgot which).  Then I noticed the 1996 copyright in phone photo to pretty much date the non-kettle.  I also noticed the model 1530 UNDERNEATH the sticker that identifies the model as a 1503 (see pic in previous post).

When I looked through the GA history, I noticed that it says the model number for a black GGA should have been 1520 in the US and 1510 in Canada between 1979 – 1999 (which should have included this 1996) and then changed to the model number 1530 from 2000-2013.

So, as far as I can tell, this grill not only was the only 1503 model grill in the WKC, but it is actually based off of the earliest known version of the 1530 model, which apparently was traveled back in time from at least one of the years 2000-2013 to get back to 1996, to be made into this 1503 logo grill.

So, I thought, I MUST acquire this exceedingly rare grill, except that I'm really not that fond of the Shady Brook Farms logo, but I do like the name.

But, then it occurred to me that maybe besides being a very rare time traveling sort of grill, this grill might not have the logo on the porcelain & might just say "Shady Brook Farms" on the handles without the whole logo being on there.  After all, we are aware of grills where the logo appears just on the handles of a GA.

So, I thought, maybe it might be kind of cool to own such a very, very, very, very rare time traveling grill, even if it has a logo that isn't my cup of tea with respect to being kind of modern & sterile looking.

Then, I did a trademark search to find out when this particular logo was in use.  It turns out that the first use alleged by Cargill was in 2016, three years after the last 1530 and two years after the model 1530 GGA was replaced by the model 1141001 GGA.

So, it turns out there is a decent shot this time traveling grill has an older logo like the one that was used back in 1996.

That one, I kind of like.  So I bought the unopened box and wonder if this time traveling logo grill might actually have traveled through time more than once.  perhaps it has a new logo that Cargill will first use in another decade or two.

Should I see what is inside?

Hal

Obviously looking for a Glen Blue (who isn’t?😂).

Looking for anything Happy Cooker, including any re-branded as Montgomery Ward.  I’ve amassed a nice collection, but I’m missing a few still.  Let me know if you can help a fella out🤞

LOL.  It's still sitting in the car, unopened.  I'll whip it out after the wife climbs into bed.

I've owned several, but never got around to lighting one.  Haven't even tried the gas assist on my ssp.

Years ago, I bought a clearanced black painted cast aluminum nonWeber at end of season. It probably sat in my yard for a decade unused before I wheeled it out to the curb.

I took over cooking on one at my brother-in-law" house to help out, maybe at a friend's house once or twice, but that is about it.

I finally got around to using thermometers a couple year ago, the old analog dial ones.   ;)

@PotsieWeber...I scored an NOS GGA 2 yrs ago.  It had assembly instructions from 1993..... Product manual 1997. ...registration card from 1997...wood handles, pre 2000...but box was code 1530, which is 2000....so it was a little confusing.  My guess is there were older production GAs being put into new boxes for a time.

I don't buy that explanation, when time travel is a much simpler explanation.

I think it would also be pretty far fetched to think that perhaps Weber, like many companies, didn't change reprint assebly instructions with a new date each year, that perhaps yours might be a 1997, and that the WKC was somehow NOT 100% accurate in it's writeup of the GA history.  Pretty far fetched when a Weber Time Traveler is a much simpler explanation.

Now I just have to prove it by opening the box to find & take pictures of the flux capacitor thing.

Yeah...well...turns out...the climax...for the very, very, very rare 1503 model...is...three wood handles that just say "Shady Brook Farms Grillfest".

They actually kind of look like they might just be bare wood with no finish on them.

Let me be the first to say, "womp, womp"

Hal
