"it came that way" or botched shorty mod.
« on: April 25, 2020, 01:51:34 PM »
Saw a blue 18 for sale, mesged right away. Went back to pics and you could tell it was short but I couldnt see the wheels in the pic. I assumed they chopped all the legs wheels and all. He mesg back and said someone mesg 1st. I just said thanks. 30min later he mesg again and said the buyer passed its yours. I went to pickup and saw the wheels but also wtf with the front leg. I asked if they guy passed cause of the leg and he said "oh no He just got another bigger one, this one came this way its not their big grill but not their small grill..." I just said okay paid and took her home. It took me only about 10min to hack up the leg, fix the triangle (now this was a racing triangle) ,  straighten the ash catcher, and clean it enough to be sure the one touch was good. (those are expensive for 18s)

Whatever he thought or didn't I am happy with my blue shorty.

You aren't lying I've been looking to do the ash bucket/shorty mod on a Bud Light 18.

Clean up looks awesome tho!

$26 free shipping on eBay is the best I could find on a site that I have used before. I couldn't find any for less than 30 last fall. I have picked up new target clearance kettles for less than that.

Tho for some reason the High capacity ash catchers are about the same price for 18 vs 22. [emoji2369]

Just glad it was all good and functional on this one.

My son was mad because I am selling a blue Gasser and he wants to keep it. I said no no son you will have a blue grill from me but it will be charcoal. He asked if it's his size, I said no but he can use it when he is older.

Well now he can help me and get started even earlier.

@Red_5_Wrangler I stumbled across a reference to Weber 18" SS sweeps a while back.  You might want to do a search & see if you can find a part number.  If you ever need a replacement, it might not even be that much difference in price.

Hal

Finally a grill you can use while sitting down!

Seriously - cool score, nicely done! Consider reaching out to KP for some customized wheel inserts!
Wife: Let me guess... you want to grill again

FWIW- an 18" Outrider, aka Platinum Smokey Joe, aka old style Jumbo Joe also works pretty good for using while sitting down on a lawn chair.  It is a little taller than the modern Jumbo Joes.
