Hot scoop from Weber
« on: February 14, 2020, 12:13:10 PM »
Picked up a little 18" kettle today & the person I bought it from gave me some "extras" she had sitting around, including this NOS 7471 Weber "Ash Shovel", although I think scoop is a more appropriate term.

According to a some info I read, it was first in the 2013 catalog & was gone from the catalog and the Weber website in 2015.  Mine has a 2012 copyright notice on the back, so I'm guessing they were available for at least part of 2012, but after the 2012 catalog went to press.

Weber logo is embossed on the scoop, but is in the shadow in my picture.

A sweet little extra that came along with a grill.
regards,
Hal

That's pretty neat.  Would work well with a WSM I'd say, probably what it was designed for since the lower section has to be dumped.  Grate story too!

It was designed for the WSM.  Would also work well with the vintage grills from before the one touch that have the three daisy wheels.  According to what I read, in the 2014 catalog, they moved it away from the WSMs (where it had been in 2013) and put it by the ranch kettles.  Being a ranch would be difficult to just pick up & dump, it probably would be useful for that too.

I have one for my wsm.   Works well.

A cheap hack on this is to cut up a milk carton.

I saw one at an Ace hardware recently, I went back to get it and was already gone. They had it for 15$ Nice getting special extras sometimes.

I swear, when I score a great deal on a 26" I'll stop buying grills... So often.

For those of you that have not been lucky enough to pick up one of these Weber ash shovels, here is a inexpensive way to duplicate the tool.  All that is required is a plastic 1 gallon bleach bottle (or similar plastic bottle), sharpie and a razor knife or a pair of scissors.

Draw an outline of what you want the shovel to look like and cut away.  When on vacation or at WKC meets, I travel with this one as I am afraid of loosing or leaving my aluminum one.  Don't use the plastic one on hot coals though.

I have a 2" disposable paint brush I use to sweep the ashes into it.

I bought one for my WSM when they first came out. Its great. I picked up the last three I saw about a year ago from my local Weber Alliance dealer since I knew they were discontinued. The work great in the firepit also.

Cool.  I remember seeing that.  Maybe a post of yours.  If memory serves, they are common in Europe, Australia, or maybe both.

It wasn't my post I just got this for v day with my ivory. I hadn't seen it before and was just guessing it was for charcoal since it had Weber logo on it.

You never know, I always have a very difficult time deciding whether to actually even use NIP stuff.
