1st clean up project
« on: July 10, 2019, 03:33:46 AM »
I picked up a 2012 performer on Monday night and started digging into the clean up last night. Much more dirty than I thought - my guess is it hasn’t had a deep clean ever! The sweep system is rusted together - I’ll probably cut it off and replace it. Unfortunately there is some surface rust on the bottom of the bowl, just pitting. I’m not overly concerned for a couple reasons this grill will be stored in the garage when not in use and I will likely take this stand and make a 26” performer out of it...maybe next year. Is there anything I should do in the interim to keep the bowl from getting worse?

1 strange thing about this performer is someone took off the serial number decal. Does this happen often? Is the serial number located anywhere other than the decal?

Are all the sweep systems the same for the 22”ers? Will this work:
Weber 7444 22-1/2-Inch One-Touch Cleaning System Kit for Grills

That one will work just fine.  It is their coated steel standard replacement version.   They also have a harder to find stainless steel version.  The part number escapes me.   Other members probably know it by heart!

As clean as it’s gonna get for now - time to cook! Carne asada & chicken breast for the first test!

Bowl didn’t come quite as clean as I hoped.

That bowl looks pretty clean for a cooker.
My gen2 Performer has a serial number/information decal that is unreadable from sun damage. I will eventually remove it. That is probably what happened to yours.
A bunch of black kettles
