Soup for the soul
« on: June 03, 2018, 07:24:35 PM »
My mother in law was just placed in hospice. Today, i cooked a whole chicken on the wsm destined for chicken and rice soup. I wanted to cook the chicken to be fall apart tender and juicy for the soup but I didn’t want a smoke flavor. I wanted normal traditional flavors. I’ve never really cooked a chicken in the oven and I didn’t want to gamble. I cut the bird in halves and cooked on the wsm with no smoke wood. My gamble paid off and nobody noticed it was “grilled”.  I wanted to provide a little comfort to my in laws. It was really enjoyed and I hope to be cooking meals as much as I can during this difficult time.

Cooking takes on a special meaning during times like this. Luckily my mother in law was still well enough to eat.  You never know when your talents will be called upon for a greater purpose then just the normal dinner or weekend party.

Food is my love language so I totally understand. Hope you are able to make a few more memories,  no matter how bittersweet and lots of comfort for your family.

When you use your talents/gifts to help others it’s always rewarding no matter how big or small. Looks amazing Btw. Hang in there and focus on all the good times that were shared, my thoughts are with y’all.

Thanks everyone. I made Mac n cheese last night to go with fried chicken that someone else brought. I’ll be baking some bread in the Dutch oven to bring hot and fresh to go with dinner tonight.
