Picked up a Weber fire pit for about 30 on CL. Looks like ill have more time relaxing by a fire this Christmas after the state stops burning up

Lets just say I have acquired a few Kettles.  Big and small.   Vintage and New...  Some say I have a problem.  I find the Kettle, buy the Kettle, USE the Kettle...No problem...

Owner said it was only used one time. I took off the handles because i hear they deteriorate rather quickly

Curious what would you put on for handles if you take the wood ones off?

If i'm not mistaken, the handles on the later models of the firepit were made of a cheaper quality wood (possibly bamboo?) that definitely don't last very long when exposed to the elements. The handles on my FiL's firepit were split down the middle within a year. I will say that he did not have a cover for the firepit, and kept it o/s at all times.

Thats exactly how the handles on my newly acquired fire pit have come apart, a nice horizontal spit. Looks like I've got another order for zavod44.

You can save the handles if you want. PITA though. I had the same horizontal splits. Wood glue and clamps do the trick.
