Stacked WSM?
« on: November 08, 2017, 09:23:43 AM »
Is stacking a WSM 22 practical? Has anyone actually cooked this way? Any thoughts or feedback?

I have a spare center ring and door so I stacked them for giggles. It's almost as tall as me and looks pretty cool but at the same time I wonder how practical it is to use - it seems that you would have to take it apart to flip or wrap your cook.

I wonder if that would be better option for hanging ribs.... they wouldn't hang so close to the charcoal.  Hmmmm.... might need to get a door for my extra 22 WSM mid-section.....

The two middle sections didn't fit together the best. I will never try it again

There’s a thread on bbq-brethren on this. Owner had to add a chimney to draft the air through massive volume of the stacked WSM.

@Prof. in the house!

Where you been, man?
It's the iconic symbol for the backyard. It's family/friends, food and fun. What more do you need to feel everything [is] going to be all right. As long as we can still have a BBQ in our backyard, the world seems a bit of a better place. At least for that moment. -reillyranch

Outside of the BBQ fundraisers that I've worked on, I've never had to cook that much at one time.

Thanks for all the feedback folks. I did not plan this, just ended up with an abundance of parts and am trying to put them to good use. Honestly, I don''t need two WSMs any more than i need a stacked one.

Not sure if i should sell of my spare WSM parts or wait and try to build a complete one and sell it as complete.

I have a spare kettle bowl that can function as a green dome for the WSM. I just need to block off the vents with high temp foil tape and screw some wooden handles to the bowl's cart flanges.

@Prof. Your center barrels look like it is a lot more functional with the doors than a stock WSM with stock doors. How well does the automatic temperature controller work when you run it stacked?

The door you see on video is an extra door realized opposite the stock door...when stacked the difference  temperature is about 50/65F from wsm central section and WeBBQ Stacker!

Is it something you don't like about the wsm?

No. I just ended up getting the SCGC and need to make room. Don't need the WSM at this point. Should have gotten just the SGCG in the first place. I will probably be getting rid of the Performer Deluxe kettle too but that will be a lot more difficult to separate myself from.
