Weber performer Deluxe gas tank modification
« on: August 21, 2017, 08:32:32 AM »
Hello, I wonder if it is possible to adapt a 20 lb gas tank to the Performer Deluxe instead the original small one for its Touch-N-Go system?

You need to get an adapter  which is the easy part. If you want to attach the 20lb tank with brackets is the more complicated matter. My question for you is why do you want to replace the 1lb tank? It saves a lot of space. If cost is an issue then just refill it yourself. I can refill my 1lb tank for less than 30 cents.

After owning one, my take is gas assist is a bit overrated. Weber lighter cubes are great.

I have the adapter and 20# tank hooked up to mine.  I also added a tank base and cover.  I love this set up.

Thanks guys, the reason I want to do this is just to refill the tank and forget about it for a while besides that I got a tank that I don't use, so...

I like the gas assist and use it to start my chimney.  The baskets take forever to light.  I use the small tanks and refill them using a hose I put together.

@Seth1025
How many times do you refill the 1lb tank before you discard it? I've been marking mine so I can discard it after 10 refills just to be on the safe side.

I discard it when it starts leaking around the pop off or the main valve. Or when the threads get rusty.

Odd question but probably answered somewhere already:

By refilling, is there ever a point where the 20# tank reaches equilibrium with the pressure of the 1# tank, rendering subsequent refills useless?

Yes if you don’t get the gas pressure out of the 1# to make room for the liquid propane.  I use hemostats to pull up on the valve to relieve the air pressure in the 1# cylinder allowing more LP to flow into it.

I did. I had my old Gasser laying on the garage. I took the hose, regulator, and all off the manifold and picked up a I think 1/4 coupling to attach it to the house coming from the gas assist. Now all I do is open the 20 gal tank valve and push the button on the grill. When I'm done I just turn the tank off. It takes maybe 10 seconds for the fire to stop.
