I made a template as well - look at this thread and print the scan on regular printer paper - slide the paper up the side of the kettle until it tucks in under the lip and tape in place.

I just installed a gas assist on a new bowl that I placed on a Gen II frame. No need to try & cut that oblong hole if you take apart the burner assembly, then you can thread from the inside of the grill. I measured 8.5" down from the top of the bowl, & used a step drill to make a round hole.
