Quick resto
« on: July 08, 2017, 07:19:11 PM »
So i picked up a one touch platinum. I was planning on using it as a cart for my wsm. I decided instead to just throw some casters on the smoker. I threw it out as a trade and tried to work something out on just the kettle but it didn't make sense to pay so much for shipping (sorry catskillsmoker). So a buddy of mine just bought a new house and was just telling me how once he gets situated his wife gave him the ok on getting a charcoal grill. So i saw this as the perfect opportunity to put the OTP back to work. Picked up a plastic performer tabletop from LightningBoldtz the other day and this morning decided to get to work. Some before shots.

Took everything apart, sanded, cleaned. The performer table is a much darker shade of grey than the OTP top so i decided to paint the light grey plastic cross supports a darker shade as well. Lid bail was pretty bent up but i managed to get it straightened out. Only thing that's missing was the ash bucket and luckily the local bbq store had the one touch assembly in stock. New grates, new handle, (again thanks to LightningBoldtz) and we're like brand new again! Also threw in what i thought were the necessities, a chimney, a brush, some starter cubes, and a bag of KBB. All he needs is the meat! oh, i also mounted a set of tool hooks to the bottom of the table by using a leftover hole in the performer top and drilling another hole.

that is a great restore @Mkrause

One comment and a question

Please tell your bud to be careful how he moves the grill or he will have another cracked table.

Also, where did you find a local BBQ shop with the OTG assembly?
I am not a collector, but I do have a small collection.

I will, however the newer table didn't seem nearly as brittle as the old one... maybe the reason behind the change?  And bourliers happened to have a few on the shelf ($25) surprisingly, their prices are pretty competitive on most things. I ended up getting the brush and chimney from there as well.

I always moved my gen 3 AH Performer by lifting the plastic table and it never cracked or felt like it was going to crack.
