Traded 18" Copper for 18" Cado
« on: June 15, 2017, 05:30:24 AM »
It's not in the best condition and probably going down as worst trade of the year.

I just saw this little 18" Cado yesterday near downtown Milwaukee. The owner had just moved in this past winter and said the grill had been outside since. He used it to grill brats and kabobs. No, it's not for sale he replied.
I stepped up and offered a new Copper Sam Adams 18.5" kettle I had recently acquired.  He accepted the deal.
This morning on my way to work we made the trade. Guess I like the vintage kettles more.

Now to determine what year this Cado is. I'm guessing 1974

Seems like a good trade to me. That Avacado will clean up nice & pretty.

Obviously looking for a Glen Blue (who isn’t?😂).

Looking for anything Happy Cooker, including any re-branded as Montgomery Ward.  I’ve amassed a nice collection, but I’m missing a few still.  Let me know if you can help a fella out🤞

I'd rather have that Cado too. I always wonder if I shouldn't scoop up a few of the 30-50 newer Kettles I see always listed on-line for trades for deals just like that..  Nice Score!

I'd make the deal but keep the laser grate.  :)

What laser grate? The previous owner of this Sam Adams kettle must have kept it. It was missing and came with a new 18" cooking grate. This kettle is 18.5" so you know it's been swapped.

I'll store this 18" Cado away till I have more time this winter to clean and polish it up.

I would have kept the copper but the cado isn't my fav color. I bet when you clean it up you'll feel better about the deal.

If it was a non logo 18.5" Copper I would have kept it.
After starring at that Sam Adams Logo for a couple of weeks,  it just didn't work for me. I don't mind drinking the beer every once in a while but I'm not a fan.
I do like any shade of green and reason for the trade.
It will be a good little cooker.

No need to justify, just put my thought out there. Can't wait to see you clean it up. Do the daisy wheels all move on the cado?

Thats a 1973 Cado with the PAT number on the lid vent. Last year for Cados was '73. Nice looking one too!

Also it's rare to not see porcelain pops around the sockets of Cados, limes or yellows..

Some SAs came with a cool extra grate that was laser-cut with the Sam Adams name logo or later in the form of a pint glass. No one seems to know why some had them.
