They're both sweet, I think the higher fade looks better, that being said...

I believe these are both '78's with different height fades, the obvious conclusion would be the angle of spray, which cause more splatter as well. Maybe Bill thought it looked better higher up on the radius, and Bob on the other hand liked a nice tight ring? Don't know anything more than I'm having the same dilemma as to which one to keep.

I doubt you can make the wrong decision.

I like the brown one best!
😅

that is probably not funny at all. Sorry, it has been a long week.
😮

They are both beautiful. Keep the one  that you are the most attached to.

There is one blue 26" that exists.

You and your kettle-karma Jim. Great find! I'm gonna go help an ol' lady across the street and see if that gets me some of that karma.
I'll find you, Westerner

Sweet find! Both of them are in great shape. I would also have a tough time deciding which one. Good luck! You can't lose either way.

Even though Weber stopped naming the kettles by 1978, the one on the right is still a Chief, to me. Especially since brown and red 26ers were gone two years later. It can be the Chocolate Chief. Or Chief Chocco. Which ever one you decide to keep they are both super nice brown 26ers.

One question I do have is can you do a bowl vent spacing comparison? It's my understanding that the earlier 26ers (small tab) were spaced further apart or higher up the bowl compared to the later ones (large tab) I'd love to see a side by side comparison. Thanks.

Varying mists over the years.

1977 Copper Mist (left wearing 1975 wheels) and 1978 Chocolate (right) brown kettles 22 for mist and color comparison. Snapped this a couple years ago. Hard to tell from the picture but in person the two kettles varied in shade of brown.

1970 Pat Pending 18 with 1964 Chestnut Coppertone.

1969 Copper Mist 26er. Sporting thumbscrews like in the '69 Weber catalog.

I will flip them over tomorrow on my lawn and take some comparative photos.  Funny you mention that though.  I am working on a couple of 18" Pat Pending copper mists. With the legs removed, I set the bowls next to each other today and there was a difference of  1/4" to 1/2" in height between the two. I assume it has to do with the leg socket placements. I will take pictures comparing those also.I have modified the subject title again.  I, as well as Mrs Cellar2ful, like the chocolate Chief name.  That is why she likes the copper mists so much because she says they look like chocolate.

Jim, I think you win either way, but I like the one on the left. The fad is nicer, IMHO
And lets see that 18 from Petaluma.. I trust you had a nice chat with Diane..
I would have gone, but it was a long drive and time was not on my side.
Congrats!

@Heyjude - It's dismantled now as I am working on the triangle and wheels. It will be reassembled correctly.  Different lighting really influences how it shows in photos.
