Friday night after work my GF and I took our pop up trailer to a campground just 5 minutes from where we work, San Simeon Campground. It was just to see how the trailer faired in the recent rains and inventory our stuff. Got to the campsite and there was a fire pit that looked like it was made of concrete pipe and TALL, this thing was probably 2' tall and maybe 30" across. NO cooking grate, if you wanted a fire to see and keep you warm, it would have cost $100 in wood!! We set everything up, trailer, easy up, my kitchen...I finally decide to start a fire and get dinner going. With no air intake and it being so deep, all it did was smolder...I got my bellows and fanned it, good blaze, AS LONG I DIDNT STOP!... GF was in the trailer reading when she asked what I was doing, " I'm packing shit up, WE'RE DONE!" NOW, i go camping MAINLY for the fire, so this just pissed me off. Saturday I spent the day doing yardwork and when evening came around I thought DAMMIT, I want a fire. I grabbed an old black kettle from the garage and set it out in the driveway. Tranced by the flames it hit me! make a kettle bowl with short legs and voila! fire pit! But I wasn't sure about the ash pan situation and fire in the outdoors. Then I remembered, there was a CL ad for a black kettle with the ash bucket for $10... I went to pick it up this afternoon. got it home, cut legs, looking good. WAIT A MINUTE, all you guys making those midgets and I thought they look so cool.... this story is getting long, SO, End result, Kettle McStubbins!!!! Already talked to
@Uncle Al about custom whitewalls with the kettle name. Now I have a fire pit to take camping and a grill to cook on!!!
Here it is..
