Refillable 16 oz propane bottles
« on: February 21, 2017, 04:42:57 PM »
This was just posted on the Weber Kettle Fans Facebook site. Nice to see a refillable one finally offered and the disposable ones go the way of the dinosaurs. It is copied as posted.

"I was at UHaul getting a hitch put on my car today when I spotted this. A 16 oz REFILLABLE propane canister, like the Coleman and other brand canisters that you throw away when empty!
I've always been bothered by the fact that that there's so much waste involved in using the disposable propane canisters and could never solve the problem until now. The Uhaul guy told me that the disposable 16oz canisters are going to be permanently phased out in California and that these will be an alternative. I'll give UHaul props for being early on this more environmentally friendly changeover.
Between my camp stove, camp lantern and Weber BBQ I only go through about 4 or 6 of these a year but still, multiply that by all the millions of other people doing the same.
BTW- this was only $11.95 including the propane! A bargain in my mind."

You can buy adapters and refill the small tanks yourself.  Just hook it up to your large tank.

That's a good idea. You can also get an adapter hose to hook up a big tank.

Seems like a good idea to me.  It looks like they are just re-branding these refillable tanks:

I don't have a 20lb tank around to refill the disposables, and isn't it technically illegal to refill the 1LB tanks?

Thanks @Cellar2ful.

@Neil_VT00 my understanding is that it is legal to refill them but illegal to transport them in a vehicle once refilled.  They have the possibility to leak so it is best to refill one and put it directly on your performer.
