18 inch portable kettle
« on: September 26, 2016, 10:24:12 PM »
Is there a list to find out which portable kettle that I have? It has vents on the side, a lid holder, and is deeper than a jumbo Joe. Thanks!

You might have a Smokey Joe platinum.  Check out the Smokey Joe history page for more information:

Here is a comparison of the SJP vs. the current Jumbo Joe from the history page:
Wanted: Burgundy 18"

Sounds like it might be a Smokey Joe Platinum... the original Jumbo Joe, also known as the Outrider.

Does the jumbo joe pictured by @Bob BQ not have an ash catcher or a bottom vent for that matter?  I was given an 18" stand up kettle that is missing the legs.  Just bowl, lid, and grates.  I think I'll by some aluminum and bend legs to turn it into a jumbo joe.

The SJP is similar to a Smokey Joe Gold as far as the vents. There are no bottom vents, only side vents that have a metal cover flap where the lid lock mounts to the bowl.

These are great cookers.  Don't let anybody tell you otherwise.

Handy for grilling …. And, perform rather nicely for low 'n' slow.

I am glad I have it as part of the arsenal, and so will you.
