Anyone familiar with Black Diamond Char Wood?
« on: September 06, 2016, 03:49:43 PM »
Picked this up on clearance at Target. Was wondering if anyone is familiar with it. Haven't had time to cook on it but did open the bag and all the pieces do seem pretty uniform in size.

Not me, but I am interested to see if you can really reuse it up to 5 times.  Should have some good flavors to it that last couple of cooks.

I was looking at that today, I am a skeptic when people say this = 22lbs of lump = 33 lbs of briquettes.
I am not a collector, but I do have a small collection.

Ignore the marketing hype and weight conversion BS, but otherwise this is actually one of my most favorite charcoals out there!

I've used and tested a LOT of different brands of lump and briquettes and this stuff is hands down the cleanest burning charcoal I've ever set fire to. The first time I used it I actually blew through half the chimney because I kept looking out the window and wasn't seeing hardly any smoke... figured it wasn't lighting or something when in fact it was blasting along just fine. The carbonization of the Char Wood is excellent and it makes a lovely "tinkling" sound as it burns. It's 100% birch heartwood and is notably better than most "premium" branded lump out there in my opinion. Absolutely perfect if you want your smoke wood alone to flavour your food.

I'm a big fan.

Also the box is easy to store and it has a plastic liner with a twist-tie so it always stays nice and dry.

It was on clearance for $10.99. Regular price was $20 sp I figured it was worth a try and if I like it I'll go buy up the remaining boxes at the clearance price.

Based on Matt's recommendation I purchased a box last night, I will also look at other targets, I got mine from 9.98 for a box.

It's a very clean burning, no smoke and it's excellent to bake with.

Picked up a box at Target last night, as well. Mine was $13.98.  Only box they had, so I grabbed it. Looking forward to checking it out.
